Zero Audience, Zero Products, $3,047

Four weeks ago I had a Notion account for grocery lists, a Canva free tier, and zero social media following. This month I made $3,047 selling Notion templates. Here's the real week-by-week breakdown.

Week 1: Research Before Building

I browsed Etsy bestsellers, joined r/Notion, r/freelance, and r/sidehustle. The gap I found: freelancer-specific business management templates. Generic planners are saturated. Nobody was owning the freelancer niche cleanly at mid-range prices.

Week 2: Building the Templates

I built three templates in ~25 hours:

  1. Freelancer Client Tracker Pro ($29) β€” CRM-style database for tracking clients, projects, payments
  2. Invoice & Income Log ($19) β€” Track invoices, due dates, monthly income summary
  3. Lead Pipeline Tracker ($19) β€” Track prospects from first contact to won/lost

Plus a bundle of all 3 for $49 β€” became my best converter.

Created mockups in Canva. Good mockups matter enormously β€” they're the first thing buyers see.

Week 3: Listing and the Slow Trickle

Listed on both Gumroad (10% fee) and Etsy (6.5% + processing). Week 3 sales: $47 total. Two Etsy sales, one Gumroad.

Rewrote Etsy titles/tags three times. Posted on r/freelance asking for feedback (not selling). Posted on Twitter β€” zero engagement.

Pro Tip: On Etsy, your title IS your SEO. "Notion Template Freelancer Client Tracker CRM Project Management" outperforms "The Freelancer's Command Center" every time.

Week 4: The Reddit Moment

Post title: "I built a Notion client tracker after losing track of a $2,400 invoice β€” here's what's in it"

847 upvotes. 2,400 visits to Gumroad. $1,900 in sales in 72 hours. Etsy also spiked from organic search.

Month 1 Final Numbers

  • Gumroad: 68 sales, $1,836
  • Etsy: 59 sales, $1,211
  • Total: 127 sales, $3,047

What Sold

  • Bundle ($49): 41 sales β€” clear winner
  • Client Tracker ($29): 52 sales
  • Invoice Log ($19): 22 sales
  • Lead Pipeline ($19): 12 sales

Expenses

  • Platform fees: $280.48
  • Canva Pro: $12.99
  • Net revenue: $2,753.53

What Worked

  • Niche specificity β€” targeting freelancers, not "everyone"
  • Reddit done right β€” led with genuine story, not sales pitch
  • Etsy SEO β€” 30% of Etsy sales from organic search
  • Bundle pricing β€” 32% of sales, ~50% of revenue

What Didn't

  • Twitter: zero sales
  • Instagram: 2 sales in 2 weeks
  • Pinterest: too slow for quick wins

Month 2 Projection

~$1,800 without another Reddit spike. Building 2 more templates and starting an email list with a free lead magnet.

Lessons

  1. Research a full week before building anything
  2. List on Etsy for organic discovery
  3. Reddit works if you add genuine value first
  4. Price for your niche's willingness to pay β€” don't race to the bottom
  5. The first $47 is the hardest β€” get there fast, then optimize

Let's go, hustler!

Never miss a single hustle!
